Rediscovering Ethan Hawke

I had a dream recently that I was hanging out with Ethan Hawke. We were sitting on either end of a couch I think was blue, then Brad Pitt was in the room on a (green?) armchair. It occurred to me then that they’d never done a movie together – and they bloody well should. I made the suggestion and Ethan said, “Sure! Should we do a drama, a comedy, or what genre? You tell us and we’ll make it happen.”

It was a great dream. Probably not prophetic – unlike, arguably, this song and this dream.

What the dream did do was put Ethan Hawke right back on my radar. If my teenage celebrity crushes were Joaquin Phoenix and Keanu Reeves, then the celebrities of my 20s were probably Ethan Hawke and Gael Garcia Bernal (and Keanu Reeves). If you ask me about my 30s, the frontrunners are Adrien Brody and hey, who am I kidding, who doesn’t still love Keanu Reeves? I’m too old and too much of a snob for celebrity crush to be the correct term for it, but let’s just say I find these actors intriguing – sometimes mesmerisingly so.

Anyway, I’m not here to fangirl over Ethan Hawke. I share the dream because it led me to follow him on Instagram, which led me to a recent podcast interview he did.

Sam Fragoso’s interview with Ethan Hawke is excellent. Fragoso clearly did his research, asks thoughtful questions and engages meaningfully with what hears. Hawke is articulate, generous, relatable, philosophical and wise in his responses.

It really moved me. And although acting and movies aren’t my jam, the heartbeat of this conversation was completely and utterly my jam.

I loved it so much I thought it deserved its own post on my blog – listen and see why! https://talkeasypod.com/ethan-hawke/

… By the way, I watch relatively few movies, so how exactly did my subconscious know Ethan Hawke and Brad Pitt have never made a movie together?🤔
